Our stay at LoerieRoep in November 2022 turned our entire lives upside down, leading us to emigrate from Germany to South Africa in 2023.
Marco and I began planning a world trip back in 2021 when we bought an ambulance to drive from Germany to Australia with our three cats. As we started converting the ambulance, however, the war in Ukraine and increasing tensions in the Middle East forced us to put those plans on hold. We decided to travel while we waited for things to settle. A road trip through South Africa had always been a dream of mine, so, in December 2022, we spontaneously booked flights to Cape Town, just a week after the unexpected passing of my beloved granddad.
Within days of our arrival, South Africa began to work its magic on us. As we journeyed through the country, we started casually browsing properties in each city we visited. When we arrived at LoerieRoep, my love for the treehouse exceeded all my expectations. After the first night, I told Marco, "One day, we have to build a treehouse like this." He immediately replied, "Why don’t we go ask Lidia (the owner) if she’s interested in selling the place?" And that was the moment our new story began.
Lidia gave us a full tour of the property, and any uncertainties we had melted away. Four months later, we arrived at our new home, leaving everything behind for this new adventure. Since then, we’ve fully upgraded the property—renovating all the units, building a pool, and creating a home for ourselves.
